Today, I would like to introduce this
cute jazz musician "Marc Cary" and his latest album "Rhodes
Ahead"
Marc Cary (born
January 29, 1967) is a post bop jazz pianist based out of New York City.
Though American
keyboardist Marc Cary uses a thoroughly contemporary arsenal of hip-hop beats,
Fender Rhodes and Hammond tones, repeating loops and hi-tech effects, the jazz
roots of his music are always plain. As his recent work has shown, the
result is a bracing blend of old and newsteered by a strong musical character,
despite the laidback cool of much of the delivery.
Marc Cary returns
with another Rhodes Ahead project! Excellent album from the
pianist/keyboardist. Marc shows his love for the Fender Rhodes keyboard on this
album. Every track is filled with beautiful music. Awesome album cover too.
INSTANT CLASSIC!
The album is a
literally electrifying mix of jazz, drum n' bass, funk, R&B, hip hop,
house, Afro-Cuban, rock, and ethnic music and features all original
compositions by Cary with the exception of "You Can't Stop Us Now"
and pianist Harold Mabern's "Beehive" (in which the aforementioned
Thomas revisits the original acid jazz classic by trumpeter Lee Morgan). Simply
put, this album rocks!! Filled with deep grooves, entrancing melodies and
intoxicating drum n’ bass, Cary has truly hit a home run which we hope will garner
him the attention he deserves. We look forward to more of his work, but in the
mean time check out “Beehive” below the jump.
I’m
giving it five stars. Will I change my mind later? Possibly. How often will I
put it on? We’ll see: This is not the kind of stuff I usually listen to
(assuming that it falls into a “kind of stuff” category at all). I certainly am
enjoying it now – spacy (and space-age) in places, funky in others. Kind of
jazzy. A little repetitious? Maybe – but that’s certainly not interfering with
my enjoyment now.
Here
it is!!!!! CRAZZZZY harmonious live from " Marc Cary Focus Trio". This is one of the my favorite music playing!!!
There
is another fantastic one from his album. You Can’t Stop Us Now : languidly
unfolds over the remorseless smack of Terreon Gully’s backbeat.Cary also takes
on Alan Palmer’s a straight up funk number, with the Rhodes, Access Virus and
organ all leading on the theme.
Overall,
keeping the original heavyweight trio of Cary, Terreon Gully and Tarus Mateen
intact, Cary’s fierce new project puts the iconic Fender Rhodes sound front and
center, fusing drum n’ bass, electronic music, jazz and funk influences,
creating yet another visionary project to follow up his triumphant 2013
releases "For The Love of Abbey" (a searing solo piano opus
celebrating Abbey Lincoln) and Marc Cary Focus Trio’s "Four
Directions" (TSF France, Album of the Year). As the original Rhodes Ahead
introduced Marc Cary as one of this generation's greatest innovators, heralding
the electro-acoustic jazz sound that became prevalent in the 2000’s,
"Rhodes Ahead Vol. 2" is a testament to Marc’s incredible vision,
versatility and creativity.
